The SAI hosted the first meeting of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) at its headquarter in Abu Dhabi on 25 - 26 February regarding the use of Information Technology and analysis of big data and its role in reviewing the SDGs implementation in addition to the SAIs role in reviewing the implementation of the UN SDGs and how to benefit from the big data in achieving these goals. The meeting was attended by team works who represented 15 SAIs of ASOSAI members. 

H.E Dr. Harib Saeed Al Amimi, President of SAI, Chairman of INTOSAI, indicated during his opening speech the significant roles of UAE’s SAI in the INTOSAI’s initiatives in the area of SDGs and said that we always wanted to share the knowledge and experiences we had to the ASOSAI region. 

The meeting aimed to develop strategies and practices of the reviewing to the SAIs in the Asian region and beyond for the next decade to review the government performance on the SDGs implementation.

A plenary session was held during the first day with the participation of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA) in UAE, highlighted the missions of the National Committee on SDGs and the FCSA role in coordinating the national efforts concerned in achieving the SDGs. workshops were also held and included the effect of SDGs implementation on the SAIs role in this field through the methodologies of strategic planning and practices of audit. 

The agenda of the second day included a plenary session on how to audit government’s contribution to the achievement of the SDGs. Moreover, a workshop has been held on how the information managed by governmental institutions in order to achieve these goals. The meeting was concluded with a set of proposals and recommendations, including the agreement on the roles and responsibilities including deadlines for reporting and future meeting arrangements.
